Day 1: DEPARTURE DAY — (Pilgrimage B) Day 2: SANTAREM - FATIMA — On arrival, drive to Santarem and the Church of the Holy Miracle. After time to see the venerated relic of the Bleeding Host and for devotions, continue to Fatima for dinner and overnight. Tonight join the Candlelight Procession. - (D) Day 3: FATIMA — Mass is celebrated at the Little Chapel of the Apparitions. Then, explore Fatima with a local guide. Visits include the Basilica, the site of Francisco’s and Jacinta’s graves; the hamlet of Aljustrel, where the children lived; and Valinhos, site of Our Lady’s appearance after the children’s return from prison, concluding with a walk on the Via Sacra to the Chapel of Calvary, with the panorama of Fatima spread below. The remainder of the day is yours. - (B,D) Day 4: SALAMANCA - GARABANDAL — Cross into Spain en route to Salamanca, a city completely surrounded be defensive walls from medieval times. Visit the grand Plaza Major, lined by the magnificent Bishop’s Palace, the Cathedral and the House of Shells, commemorating pilgrimages to Santiago de Compostela, that originated from here. Later travel north to the Garabandal area for dinner and overnight. - (B,D) Day 5: GARABANDAL - LOURDES — Start the day with Mass at the village church of Garabandal. Afterwards, ascend Apparitions Hill and attend a presentation to learn more about the events that occurred here. Later continue toward the French border and arrive in Lourdes at dinner time. Afterwards, join other pilgrims in tonight’s torchlight procession. - (B,D) Day 6: LOURDES — After Mass at the Grotto, a local guide will take the group on a walking tour of Lourdes - the home, where St. Bernadette grew up; the Basilica of the Rosary, the Upper Basilica dedicated to the Immaculate Conception and the Basilica of St. Pius X. Later visit the Baths, the site of many miracles and to attend the Blessing of the Sick. - (B,D) Day 7: FRENCH RIVIERA - NICE — Enjoy beautiful scenery journeying past medieval Carcassonne to the Mediterranean Sea. The cross the Rhone River delta and continue via Cannes to Nice, the heart of the French Riviera. - (B,D) |
Day 8: MONACO - PISA - FLORENCE — To Monaco. Stop above the city and enjoy a splendid view of Monte Carlo’s distinct harbor, wellgroomed parks, the ornate cathedral, the worldfamous Casino and the Palace, once the domicile of Princess Grace Kelley. Then, journey past Genoa, hometown of Columbus, to Pisa. View the world’s ultimate landmark, the Leaning Tower. Continue to Florence . A guided walk of the Tuscan capital includes the marble Duomo, Giotto’s bell tower, the Baptistry and its bronze ‘Doors of Paradise’ and famed Ponte Vecchio spanning the Arno River. - (B,D) Day 9: ASSISI - ROME — Traverse the Chianti wine region en route to Assisi. Start with a visit of the Church of San Damiano before entering the the medieval city, little changed since St. Francis walked here. After Mass at the crypt of St. Francis, we explore the huge basilica above. Later enter ‘St. Mary of the Angels’ Basilica to view the Porziuncola, the thorn-less rosebush and the cave where St. Francis retreated for prayer. Later depart for Rome. - (B,D) Day 10: ROME / VATICAN — A day devoted to sightseeing in Rome and he Vatican, the center of Catholic Christendom. After a visit of St. Peter’s Basilica and Square, explore the Vatican Museum and the Sistine Chapel, site of the recent election of our new Holy Father, Benedict XVI and Michelangelo’s celebrated The Last Judgment’ . Afterwards, you have time for lunch and the opportunity to purchase of religious articles. Later visit the Basilicas of St. Mary Major and St. John Lateran, the Holy Stairs and St. Paul Outside the Walls, the fourth major basilica which was erected over the Apostle’s tomb. - (B,D) Day 11: ROME / PAPAL AUDIENCE / CATACOMBS — This morning attend an Audience and the Blessing by the Holy Father (if held). In the afternoon drive along the ancient Appian Way past the Chapel of “Domine Quo Vadis?” to the Catacombs where the early Christians buried their dead. On return stop to view the Colosseum and the Forum, center of Imperial Rome. Then, explore Trevi Fountain, the Spanish Steps and famous Via Condotti for shopping. - (B,D) Day 12: ROME - U.S.A. — (B) |
