Day 1: DEPARTURE DAY — (A) Dinner and breakfast are served on your trans-Atlantic flight to Rome Day 2: ROME — On arrival in Rome you are met and transferred to your hotel. Tonight meet the other group members at dinner. - (D) Day 3: ROME / VATICAN — Visit St. Peter’s Basilica and Square, explore the Vatican Museum and the Sistine Chapel, site of the recent election of our new Holy Father, Benedict XVI, and see Michelangelo’s celebrated ‘The Last Judgment’ . After time for lunch and the opportunity to purchase of religious articles, visit the Basilicas of St. Mary Major and St. John Lateran, the Holy Stairs and St. Paul Outside the Walls, erected over the Apostle’s tomb. - (B, D) Day 4: ROME / PAPAL AUDIENCE / CATACOMBS — Today attend an Audience and Blessing by the Holy Father. Later drive along the ancient Appian Way past the Chapel of “Domine Quo Vadis?” to the Catacombs, where the early Christians buried their dead. Stop to view the Colosseum and the Forum, center of Imperial Rome. Then, explore Trevi Fountain and the Spanish Steps. - (B, D) Day 5: MONTECASSINO - PADRE PIO — Depart Rome for the Abbey of Montecassino. Founded by St. Benedict in 529, it has been completely restored after the 1944 bombings. After Mass at the crypt of St. Benedict a guided tour of the monastery and the Polish Cemetery. Later cross the "boot" of Italy to San Giovanni Rotondo, the home of St. Padre Pio. - (B, D) Day 6: IN SAN GIOVANNI. — Mass at St. Padre Pio's crypt is followed by a lecture by one of the resident fathers about the saint's life and stigmata. Also visit the living quarters of Padre Pio. The afternoon is free for devotions and revisits. You may also wish to follow the Stations of the Cross behind St. Padre Pio's sanctuary. - (B, D) Day 7: LANCIANO - LORETO - EN ROUTE. — Head north to Lanciano and celebrate Mass at the 8th century Eucharistic Miracle. Then, journey along the spectacular Adriatic coastline to Loreto. Here enter the "Holy House of Nazareth" and learn about the history of the Shrine to Our Lady of Loreto. Then transfer to the nearby Ancona harbor for departure to the Dalmation coast. - (B, D) |
Day 8: SPLIT - MEDJUGORJE — Morning visit to Empoeror Hadrian's palace which basement houses a harbor used by Roman trading vessels. Then motor along the Adriatic coast before turning inland to Medjugorje. Upon arrival check in at one of the private homes or inns with all modern facilities. Meet the owners - many friendships have started that way over the years. Before dinner take a short walk to St. James church to convene with other pilgrims in praying the Rosary. Dinner and overnight. - (B, D) Day 9: IN MEDJUGORJE — An exciting day awaits you today. After attending the English-language Mass at St. James Church ascend Apparition Hill (Podbrdo) where Our Lady appeared to the five children on many occasions to stress the importance of sacrifice. Her calls have been a return to praying the Rosary, repentance and to fasting. Depending on availability visit with one of the visionaries, Vicka, Marija, Jakov, Ivan and Mirjana. - (B, D) Day 10: IN MEDJUGORJE — After Mass at the village church follow the way up the Holy Cross Mountain. Also receive a blessing by Fr. Jozo (if possible) who was the parish priest at teh time of the apparitions. Tonight, again, attend the daily gathering at the village church to pray the Rosary. - (B, D) Day 11: EN ROUTE. — Say good-bye to your hosts and depart Medjugorje to your departure airport. - (B, D) Day 12: RETURN FLIGHT — (B) |
